Cooperation with industry initiatives across the value chain to tackle local, regional and global issues

Complex global challenges such as food security, climate change, and waste management require collaborative efforts across the entire value chain. No single entity can solve these challenges alone, highlighting the need for collective action and cooperation at all levels—local, regional, and global.

Our actions:

  • Customers associations: We collaborate closely with industry associations representing beverage carton customers to conduct joint studies that demonstrate the interrelation between packaging and food and beverages. Additionally, we support these associations by providing data, technical knowledge and facts that support the positioning of beverage cartons.

  • Cross-industry initiatives: We currently work with various associations and industry groups to drive a favorable policy agenda and a successful transition in Europe, including FPE (Fibre Packaging Europe), Greensource initiative and EUBA (European Bioeconomy Alliance). Moving to a global association, FBCA will seek to build alliances at a global, regional and local level. FBCA members are involved in industry initiatives to deliver global sustainability commitments, such as, SBTi (Science based targets initiative) and UN Global Compact.

  • Supply Chain: We ensure our materials are sustainably sourced to support the industry’s climate and nature objectives. Our suppliers play a crucial role in helping our industry achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and FBCA members are committed to using only materials that meet the highest sustainability standards. Forestry certification has a measurable, on-the-ground impact on protecting and enhancing biodiversity. Our members are active in supporting continuous improvement of the relevant voluntary standards.

  • End-of-life initiatives: We currently participate in industry-wide initiatives in Europe, such as the 4evergreen alliance and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), to enhance knowledge on recycling and recyclability of beverage cartons and fiber-based packaging in general. FBCA will seek to expand our scope of action looking for global initiatives. Our involvement supports the development of design for recycling guidelines and standards, ultimately improving the circularity of beverage cartons.
