Systemic approach to enable a resilient food system

With the global population projected to reach 9.8 billion by 2050 and 11.2 billion by 2100 [1], the demand for food will significantly increase. Currently, global food systems are responsible for over one-third of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions [2] and waste more than one-third of the food produced [3]. There is an urgent need to overhaul our food systems to sustainably provide nutritious food for a growing population while reducing our environmental footprint.

Our actions:

  • Enable access to Nutritious and Safe Food: Beverage cartons protect perishable foods and beverages without preservatives or refrigeration, ensuring nutritious foods can reach all, including remote areas. For fresh beverages and foods, cartons preserve light and oxygen-sensitive nutrients, keeping products safe for consumption.

  • Contribute to waste reduction: The long shelf life and food preservation characteristics of cartons help reduce food waste, thereby improving the environmental performance of the food system.

  • Minimizing food waste: FBCA members are continually advancing the technology to minimize wasted packs and reduce food loss across the production value chain.
