Beverage carton industry verifies continued commitment on wood fibre traceability

The FBCA, the Food & Beverage Carton Alliance, and its members are proud to announce that they continue to make positive progress in reaching their commitment on wood fibre traceability.

In 2007 the FBCA’s members made a certain set of commitments around Chain of Custody certification and traceability. Since then, Proforest, an independent organisation working in the field of natural resource management, has monitored their progress towards their targets each year from 2007 to 2015. Proforest recently carried out a tenth year of progress reporting and monitoring to cover the period of 1 January to 31 December 2019. The results from this report include:

• All 46 of the manufacturing plants operated by three of the FBCA’s members were Chain of Custody-certified.

• All of the mills and traders which supply LPB (liquid packaging board) to the FBCA members were Chain of Custody-certified.

• The FBCA members were all sourcing 100% wood fibre from legal and acceptable sources.

“The results from this report underscore the beverage carton industry’s continued commitment of ensuring sustainable sourcing of its raw materials and incorporating this commitment into their business strategies,” said Annick Carpentier, Director General of the FBCA. “The FBCA continues to actively work with its stakeholders at EU and national levels to promote sustainable forest management and the wider use of certification systems. We thank Proforest and our members for contributing to this report.”

For its report, Proforest asked the FBCA’s members Elopak, Tetra Pak and SIG Combibloc to submit data and supporting documentation for the verification and calculation of the results. The Proforest reporting template can be found within the annex of the report.
