RECY:CHECK
RECY:CHECK is an initiative of the Food Beverage Carton Alliance. For our products to be truly circular, we have developed the Recycling Certification Protocol for the assessment of Fibre-Based Composite Packaging (FBCP).
The methodology has been developed with the support of independent industry experts from both suppliers and producers, as well as external consultants and experts.
RECY:CHECK describes the certification methodology to determine the actual recyclability of Fiber-Based Composite Packaging in specialized mills reprocessing liquid packaging cartons – including the PolyAl fraction. Learn more about the PolyAl fraction.
The new FBCA RECY:CHECK Protocol, with certification covers a full-scale methodology that provides concrete proof of recyclability.

The importance of certification for Fibre-Based Composite Packaging
To ensure a high level of standardization in certification, the RECY:CHECK methodology has been closely aligned with the RecyClass framework, a leading value chain initiative for plastic packaging.
By integrating the foundational principles, rationale, calculations, and classification criteria from RecyClass, the RECY:CHECK methodology extends these robust standards to fibre-based composite packaging. This alignment facilitates more accurate comparisons between different materials while preserving the distinct characteristics of individual material streams, including liquid packaging cartons.
