Packaging Insights interviews FBCA Director General Sebastian Bartels

The FBCA was pleased to take part in the Packing Insights video series discussing design for recycling guidelines, ciricularity and the importance of food and nutrition in renewable fibre-based products like food and beverage cartons. Packaging Insights is an online hub for global packaging news and analysis reporting on industry developments, the circular economy, packaging technolgy, policy and more.

Packaging Insights' Milana Nikolova led an engaging interview with FBCA Director General Sebastian Bartels, who emphasized the importance of a "big picture" view of the full life cycle of a food and beverage carton. Bartels reminded viewers that the primary purpose of beverage carton packaging serves to preserve the nutritional value of food and beverages without preservatives, and a long shelf-life.

He further emphasized the importance of the renewability of fibre-based packaging, saying it starts with design arguing that recyclability should be built in from the beginning and in collaboration, highlighting the FBCA's Design for Recycling Guidelines and RECY:CHECK protocol.
